Challenge
Supermarkets often use small toy items as promotional giveaways in loyalty campaigns. These toys are typically made from petroleum-based plastics, and their small size usually makes them challenging to recycle.
Approach
Craze, a brand loyalty company, wanted a sustainable and non-toxic polymer for their promotional toys and joined ABN-AMRO’s Impact Nation program to find the ideal material. The program matched Craze with Mango Materials, leading to an intensive project where they explored which grade of YOPP/YOPP+ would best fit their requirements. Previously, Mango Materials had also participated in this program with Vogel’s, an electronics mounting equipment company also based in the Netherlands.
Manufacturing Process
During the campaign, the Craze team collaborated with supply chain partners to optimize molding, coloring, and printing processes using YOPP/YOPP+ ST-101. With support from the Biopolymer Application Center at AVANS University, they rapidly developed prototypes and refined molding parameters to share with commercial partners. By the program's end, they successfully produced pieces for a current customer using existing molds.

Outcome
Since the initiation of the program, Craze has significantly increased its acquisition of YOPP/YOPP+ ST-101, resulting in the production of more than ten distinct promotional items using this material. The manufacturing of non-toxic toys represents a positive contribution to the well-being and safety of future generations.
