Natura
Challenge

The beauty industry is a significant contributor to single-use and challenging-to-recycle packaging waste. Natura is addressing sustainability in this sector through its Biome line, which prioritizes environmentally responsible formulations and innovative packaging solutions. The Natura Biome collection is both vegan and plastic-free, featuring an accessory soap dish made with Mango Materials’ YOPP+ PHA to complement its primary bar soaps and shampoos.

Approach

Mango Materials worked closely with Natura's molding partners to make prototypes using YOPP PHA pellets, so they could see how the material performed. After successful tests, Natura created a mold specifically for this product line to showcase the qualities of the YOPP+ PHA material. This mold was tailored to work with YOPP+ pellets, making the molding process more efficient. Now, the mold is regularly used to produce the Biome accessory, which is available in stores across Brazil.

Outcome

The soap dish is made with YOPP+ material, and its packaging displays information about Mango Materials’ PHA production process. This helps Natura communicate to customers that this isn’t just a typical soap dish—it’s part of a larger effort to use sustainable materials. Mango Materials was honored with the Natura Embrace award in 2022 for this partnership.

“Our vision goes beyond 'causing less impact'. We want to generate a positive impact. But the socio-environmental challenge is complex, and for that we need to connect with the best ideas and solutions. Since we learned about Mango Materials, we have seen the potential of its technology in redesigning entire production chains, not only as an alternative to plastic, but as a way to give new purpose to waste,”
